What We Do

Ashby Community Garden has hosted over 100 classes, events and hands-on gardening activities serving a diversity of community members including:

• Dozens of workshops with hundreds of participants taught by local experts including UC Urban Bee Lab, Ecology Center – rain gardens, natural dying, honey beekeeping, fermenting foods, medicinal herbs, monarch butterfly propagation and more
• Sessions on personal healthy food and lifestyle choices with Over 60’s Clinic, one of Lifelong Medical's clinics in the neighborhood
• Three public workshops with UC Urban Ag on building and maintaining healthy soil
• Provide seeds and plants to the community through plant give-aways and annual plant sales
• Partner with Phat Beets to provide space for a CSA pick-up station
• Opportunities for local students to gain community service experience from Build On, Cal Berkeley Project Day and Circle K
• Hosted a local summer camp for Peace Out Loud students
• Emergency Preparedness Workshop and potential site
• Connects people to the source of their food
• Shares ways to grown food locally and communally
• A green oasis in the middle of a urban neighborhood
• A place to learn with others about plants, native pollinators (including monarch butterflies), natural dyeing techniques, herbal remedies, seed saving, keeping chickens, growing food, preserving food, soil health, water wise gardening, emergency preparedness, and much more
• A Community gathering spot that welcomes all
