Hours and Location
Pinnantak Garden is a collectively run garden managed by We Bee Gardeners in partnership with Seogrea Te’ Land Trust at 1370 Ashby Ave, in Southwest Berkeley. Join us at our monthly new member open hours on the last Sunday of every month from 1:00-3:00pm. To visit the garden other times please contact us.

History
The garden was started in 2004 by gardener activists who negotiated with the former property owners to use their vacant land as a community garden. The garden evolved to be a self-governing, volunteer base of committed garden members who paid a sliding scale annual fee for their own plot. 

In 2013, garden members formed a 501c3 educational non-profit, We Bee Gardeners, (WBG) to govern garden activities and broaden the garden’s mission.  In this new capacity, WBG was able to provide garden donors with taxable deductions for their contributions.  Over the years, We Bee Gardeners has hosted many community events.

From the beginning the intention was for the land to be moved into a land trust. In 2020, We Bee Gardeners began conversations with Segorea Te’ Land Trust about the possibility of them purchasing the land from the property owners. In 2022, Sogorea Te’ Land Trust finalized the purchase of both lots. With the garden secured in the land trust, what was previously Ashby Community Garden is now Pinnantak Garden. Pinnantak is Ohlone for “place of the bee”.

Mission
We support our local urban community in growing organic food economically through offering educational workshops and hands-on gardening activities. Our intention is to be part of a healthier bioregion by improving the soil and providing pesticide-free habitat for birds, pollinators, plants and humans.
